The Competition Bureau is launching a public consultation to solicit feedback from Canadians on its proposed guidelines concerning environmental claims. The Bureau strongly encourages anyone who suspects that a company or individual is making deceptive marketing claims to report them by using its online form.
Norman Wells is in trouble. The Mackenzie River’s water levels are too low for barges to deliver fuel, so, since May 2024, they’ve been relying on expensive air shipments, causing fuel prices to skyrocket to over $4.65 per litre for gas. This makes everything more expensive — think heating, transportation, and food — forcing residents to consider about leaving town for more affordable living conditions.
This petition, started by the Town of Norman Wells, asks the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories to declare a state of emergency and give rebates to help cover the high fuel costs, which totalled $1.84 million in October 2024 alone. It also calls on the Canadian government to step in and provide support until Norman Wells’ winter road opens to heavy traffic.
